The Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) has directed that all employers of industrial and commercial establishments, shops, factories, construction establishments and other public sector undertakings should declare a paid holiday for their employees on April 23, the day of polling in Tamil Nadu.

According to a release from S. Ananth, Director, DISH, these should include casual workers, temporary workers, daily wagers and workers who work on shift basis. The paid holiday is mandated under Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Suitable action would be initiated against managements if paid holiday is not granted on the poll day. Complaints of violations against any factory management or construction establishments can be reported to officials at the DISH State Control Room.
