The Joint Director of Industrial Safety and Health, Tiruchi, has directed industrial units in Tiruchi, Karur, Ariyalur, and Perambalur districts to declare paid holiday for labourers and workers from other States employed in such units and at the construction sites on the day of polling to enable them exercise their franchise.

In a press release here, the Joint Director (Additional Charge), R. Rajasekaran, said elections in Puducherry, Kerala, and Assam will be held on April 9 while it will be held on April 23 in Tamil Nadu. The first phase polling in West Bengal is scheduled on April 23 and the second phase polling on April 29.

Labourers and workers of other States employed in industrial units and at construction sites should be given a paid holiday on the day of polling to enable them cast their vote at the respective Assembly constituencies. The owners of industrial units should advise the workers about the importance of voting.

Control rooms have been set up in the districts to convey information about industries and construction companies, which do not declare a holiday.
