A 41-year-old woman suffered a neck injury after a stray manja thread got entangled around her throat, while she was riding a scooter in Vadapalani on Thursday evening.
According to police, Krithika, a homemaker from Nesapakkam near K.K. Nagar, was on her way to pick up her daughter from school. As she approached the signal at 100-Feet-Road in Vadapalani, a snapped manja thread drifting across the road wrapped around her neck, causing a cut and started bleeding.
She lost balance and brought her scooter to a halt. Passersby and traffic enforcement personnel quickly came to her assistance and removed the thread.
Krithika was rushed to a private hospital in Vadapalani for treatment. Doctors said her condition is stable and the injury was confined to the neck.
Based on a complaint, Ashok Nagar police have begun efforts to trace those responsible for flying kites using manja thread.
