Three persons have been arrested for selling manja thread and kites in Kodungaiyur.

As flying kites using manja thread can lead to fatal accidents, the Chennai Police Commissioner has issued standing orders banning the manufacture and sale of kites and manja thread, and the flying of kites using manja thread.

Following this, police teams led by inspectors have been monitoring their respective station limits and taking action, including arrests, against those involved in the manufacture and sale of manja thread, as well as those flying kites using manja thread.

On January 22, Prakash Jain, 67, a resident of Korukkupet, was returning home from Madhavaram through the Moolakadai flyover after work, when a stray manja thread caused a bleeding injury to his lip. The injured Prakash Jain was admitted to a hospital and treated. Based on a complaint lodged by his son Sunil Jain, a case was registered at the Kodungaiyur Police Station and an investigation was taken up.

On investigation, Kodungaiyur Police Station arrested three persons involved in the sale of manja thread.
