Three persons were arrested by the Thiruthuraipoondi police on charge of indulging in lottery ticket sales, which was banned in the State.
According to the police, the crime came to light following the interrogation of Sekar, 63, of Thiruthuraipoondi whose movement near the Old Bus Stand last night created suspicion in the minds of police personnel on night rounds.
A search in his house led to the seizure of banned lottery tickets and cash. Subsequently, his friends – Subash Chandrabose, 43, and Pakkirisamy of Thirukkuvalai in Nagapattinam district, were interrogated.
The raids at the accused persons houses led to the seizrure of 160 lottery tickets, mobile phones, ATM cards, 10 different bank pass books and cash of around ₹2.43 lakh, the police said.
