The members of the Dindigul-Kumili Broad Gauge Scheme Agitators Committee have appealed to the Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to complete the bridge works in Theni and Bodi quickly.

In a memorandum to the Minister, committee president R. Sankaranarayanan said on Wednesday that a delegation would visit New Delhi and meet the Minister about the need for expediting the projects in the district soon.

The long pending Dindigul-Sabarimala project, though it was sanctioned nothing tangible had commenced. “The ministry may consider implementing it in two phases - Dindigul-Lower Camp and Lower camp to Sabarimala. Only when the study was completed, funds would be earmarked,” they added.

Requesting to ply a new train between Bodi-Madurai-Bodi train, the members said that they would stage a demonstration in front of the office of the Divisional Railway Manager on May 12 to draw the attention of the authorities. The train, if departs at 7 a.m. from Bodi and 7 p.m. from Madurai would be useful to the commuters. It should help hundreds of office goers and small merchants, they pleaded.

The railway projects under way in the district had thrown the normal vehicular traffic out of gear. The bridges coming up near Theni and at Bodi should be expedited considering the vehicle flow from other States especially, Kerala. The heavy vehicles too got piled up and congestion was very high during peak hours, they said.
