Intelligence Bureau and Ramanathapuram district police have detained a 46-year-old Sri Lankan national near Pamban bus stand here on Sunday.
Police sources said, Pidige Wamindu Kumara alias Bandara, 46, of Colombo, Sri Lanka, a murder case accused in a case registered at Parakaduwa police station in Sri Lanka, was awaiting judgement.
About a month ago he had escaped Sri Lanka through a illegal boat from Mannar region. He who landed in Rameswaram had wandered to several places in the State.
Based on the information about him, the central IB personnel detained him. Subsequently, he was taken to Pamban police station. Further investigation is under way.
