The Chennai police have arrested Aswathaman, a key accused in former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader K. Armstrong’s murder case, in Bengaluru while he was trying to flee abroad.
Aswathaman, son of late history-sheeter Nagendran who was the prime accused in the Armstrong murder case, was released on bail from prison a few days ago.
He was apprehended at Bengaluru International Airport while attempting to escape to Bangkok. Immigration officials detained him on Wednesday (April 29, 2026) and alerted the Bengaluru police. Subsequently, based on information shared with the Chennai police, a team from the MKB Nagar police rushed to Bengaluru, secured Aswathaman, and brought him back to Chennai for further investigation.
Chennai City police had already issued a lookout notice against Aswathaman to prevent him from fleeing abroad in connection with the murder case. Despite this, he attempted to escape to Thailand by flight from Bengaluru, the police said.
