The Q Branch police seized 292 kg of ganja that was being taken for smuggling to Sri Lanka near Ramanathapuram and arrested three persons.Based on a tip-off received by the Ramanathapuram Q Branch police, a team led by Q Branch Inspector Jeevamani Dharmaraj, along with head constables Rajendran, Senthilkumar, Raju, and Raja, was conducting surveillance early Friday morning.At that time, near the Pudumadam bus stop close to Uchippuli, they intercepted a goods vehicle heading towards the coast. Upon inspecting it, they seized 292 kg of ganja contained in 146 parcels (2 kg in each of 8 sacks) along with vegetable sacks.Following this, they arrested Thangaraj, 25, from Kottanatham village, Vilathikulam taluk in Thoothukudi district, who drove the vehicle; Sekar, 50, from Kumarasakkanapuram, Vilathikulam; and Senthilvelan, 50, from Melatheru, Perungulam in Ramanathapuram district.During further inquiry, it was revealed that they had procured the ganja from a gang in Madurai and then loaded vegetables from the Paravai market.It was also found that they had planned to smuggle the ganja to Sri Lanka from the Pudumadam coastal area through Senthilvelan.The Q Branch police handed over the 292 kg of ganja and the three arrested persons to the Ramanathapuram Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit.
