A 74-year-old woman was robbed of a five-sovereign gold chain worth around ₹6 lakh by two unidentified men on a motorcycle who pretended to ask for directions near Sevvapet.
Police said the victim, Gajalakshmi, 74, a resident of Perumalpattu near Tiruvallur, was on her way to a nearby temple when the incident took place. The suspects, both wearing helmets, approached her on a bike and asked for directions to the temple. As she responded, one of them suddenly snatched the chain from her neck.
Though the woman raised an alarm, the duo sped away before passersby could react. Sevvapet police have registered a case and begun an investigation.
