:A 72-year-old woman was killed and robbed of her gold jewellery by an unidentified man near Tiruvallur on Friday. A senior police official said the man gained entry into Mariyammal’s house in Sevvapet village on the pretext of taking an electricity meter reading. After asking her for some water, he brutally stabbed her with a knife that was concealed in his pocket. He then snatched the gold chain from her neck and fled from the scene. When her neighbours found her house closed, they went to check on her and found her lying unconscious. Based on their alert, the Sevvapet police sent the body of the deceased to the Tiruvallur Government Hospital for a post-mortem. A search is under way for the culprit.
