A 28-year-old woman, S. Sangeetha, was arrested after she robbed five sovereigns of gold from an elderly woman, P. Nagammal, 60, living next door in Poothipuram near Usilampatti on Monday.The police said that Sangeetha who was hard pressed for money, had planned to rob the aged woman.On Tuesday morning, she sneaked into the house of Nagammal. Even as the woman was busy in the kitchen, the accused, who had masked herself with a towel, gagged the woman with her hands and pulled out the old chain.Under the blaring sound from a public address system playing in the neighbourhood, the alarm raised by the victim did not draw attention of any of the neighbours.Meanwhile, the accused who had entered the house through the main entrance, jumped the compound wall from behind and got into her house.However, the police tracked the accused through CCTV camera and arrested her.
