European venture capitalists are investing billions of euros into AI-related start-ups as the region’s fund managers spot an opportunity to capitalise on a rapidly shifting technological landscape.

Leading venture capitalists in Europe have focused on backing a new wave of entrepreneurs, who are starting companies focused on developing advanced technologies and attracting global customers.

The venture capital industry in Europe has emerged as a crucial backer for young and fast-growing businesses, providing funds to fuel their expansion. VCs have also promoted an increase in entrepreneurship, leading to new start-ups that can become thriving companies.

The latest flurry of investment has focused on larger funding rounds across fewer deals.

Of the €66.2bn worth of venture capital deals in Europe in 2025, more than a third were in AI-related companies, according to market researcher PitchBook. Software and fintech were the second and third largest verticals.
