A seven-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a speeding two-wheeler near Guindy on Thursday (March 19, 2026).
A senior official from the city traffic police said Gomathy, 26, a resident of West Saidapet, worked at a petrol bunk located in St. Thomas Mount. She had brought her son Devarajan to her workplace, as it was a school holiday, on her bicycle. After finishing her work, she was returning home – with her son on the pillion – via the Kathipara flyover. As she was descending the flyover, a speeding two-wheeler driven by Saravan, working as a deputy manager in a private company, hit them. In the accident, both Devarajan and Gomathi were thrown off the cycle and sustained severe injuries.
The traffic police personnel rushed both of them to the Kalaignar Government Hospital in Guindy. Later, Devarajan was shifted to the Egmore Institute of Child Health for advanced treatment. He died there on Thursday night.
The Guindy Traffic Investigation Police, after registering a case, arrested Saravanan, 29, on charges of causing the accident.
