Amid ongoing controversy surrounding Russia's participation in the Venice Art Biennale, news has arrived that Svetlana Zakharova, star of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, will be excluded from the international dance gala Les Étoiles, curated by Daniele Cipriani and scheduled for March 20 and 21 on the stage of the Sala Santa Cecilia, Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone.
The edition has been dubbed 'The Gala of Love'.
"She had been invited to participate with the deeply rooted idea that art is a means of uniting without reducing artists to their nationality and that dance is one of the bridges that allow encounters in the spirit of peace," explains a statement from the organization.
"Ms.
Zakharova is not subject to sanctions in European Union countries and the invitation was made in full compliance with current laws.
