The British father of three children who were put into care because of the way the family was living off the grid in woods in Abruzzo has called for an end to the protests the case has triggered.

The situation escalated last week when the Juvenile Court of L'Aquila ordered that the children's Australian mother, Catherine Birmingham, be ejected from the home in Vasto where they are staying and where it had been possible for her to be with them for set periods during the day.

The authorities have reportedly raised the security of the court's president, Cecilia Angrisano, after she was inundated with threats and insults online in the wake of the decision.

There have also been protests outside the Vasto foster home.

"I want the children to come home, but until that happens, I prefer them to stay here," the father, Nathan Trevallion, said as he left the home on Tuesday.
