A nine-year-old girl who was riding pillion was knocked down by a lorry on the Poonamallee High Road in Aminjikarai on Saturday. The 33-year-old lorry driver was arrested.
A senior official from the City Traffic Police said that Sivakumar was taking his daughter, Prithiksha, on his two-wheeler from his house in Maduravoyal towards Aminjikarai on the Poonamallee High Road on Saturday. As Sivakumar was proceeding on his two-wheeler, a truck driven by J. Selvakumar from Villupuram hit the two-wheeler from behind, causing the motorist and the girl to fall down. The truck ran over the girl, killing her on the spot.
The Koyambedu Traffic Investigation Police arrested the driver after sending the body for post-mortem.
