Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said outside the bar in the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana where a fire killed at least 47 people and injured 113 more at a New Year's Eve party for young people that he had seen the traces of the tragedy and suffered as a father and a grandfather.
"I saw the traces of a real tragedy.
The shoes and clothes on the floor reminded me of what could have happened.
I'm a father and grandfather, I understand what a parent must feel," Tajani told reporters in Crans-Montana after entering the burned-out ruins of the Le Constellation bar.
"I only entered the lobby, I didn't go downstairs, but I can imagine the tragedy of those minutes. These are things that cannot and must not happen.
