Coimbatore City Police imposed a whopping ₹20.11 crore in fine on motorists for various motor vehicle offences in 2025, registering a steep rise from ₹5.1 crore levied in the previous year. The city police registered a total of 6,49,039 cases for motor vehicle offences in 2025 as against 4,17,684 registered in 2024.
Of the ₹20,11,50,100 imposed by the police in 2025, a total of ₹8,85,36,100 was collected as spot fine and the remaining sum of ₹11,26,14,000 was fine settled through courts.
Pedestrian deaths account for 37% of road accident fatalities in Coimbatore
Among the 6,49,039 offences reported in 2025, non-compliance to wearing helmet by two-wheeler riders were the highest (3,24,463), followed by driving under the influence of alcohol (14,804), red signal jumping (14,803) and speeding (14,492).
