Hundreds of palmyrah saplings planted along the banks of Bamani River in Mannargudi area have been saved at the intervention of Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa.
According to official sources, the Green Needa organisation took up the plantation of palmyra saplings along the banks of the Bamani in Mannargudi area recently. After the planting of the saplings, a few persons attempted to fence a portion of the area claiming that the saplings were planted on their patta land.
Aggrieved by the development, the Green Needa organisation took up the issue with the Industries Minister, who directed the revenue officials to look into the matter.
On December 31, the officials visited the spot and affirmed that the land on which the palmyra saplings were planted belonged to the Water Resources Department and not to any individual/individuals, sources said.
