The pollution of Tamirabharani River will become a thing of the past during the tenure of the present government as a conservation action plan will soon be launched, Minister for Finance N. Marie Wilson has said.During an informal chat with reporters at Palayamkottai on Thursday, after garlanding the statue of freedom fighter Ondiveeran at his memorial, Mr. Wilson said steps would be taken to conserve the perennial river that quenched the thirst of millions. Credible and longstanding solutions were being drawn in this direction and, hence, visible changes would happen. “Conserving the Tamirabharani, which was deemed impossible in the past, will become possible soon.”Mr. Wilson said the State Government’s fiscal condition was improving and it would become evident soon, thanks to the fiscal prudence of the present government. The steps being taken to augment revenue while slashing unnecessary expenditure was steadily reducing the debt burden, which now stood at ₹10.71 lakh crore.Asked about the State Government’s decision to give cars to all 234 MLAs with an assistant and a driver, he said it was necessary and would be helpful for the MLAs to discharge their duties with ease.Minister for Registration and Commercial Taxes D. Logesh Tamilselvan, who accompanied Mr. Wilson, said there was no corruption in his department. “There is no need to bribe anyone for registering documents,” he said.
