The Punjalkatte police, on December 29, booked Prasanna, a head constable with the Dakshina Kannada District Armed Reserve, in connection with an accident involving a car and a motorcycle in which the motorcycle rider died.
The police said Prasanna, who was driving the car, hit the motorcycle that Imran alias S.A. Mohammed Taha was riding at Kattimane, near Pilatabettu of Bantwal Taluk on Monday afternoon. Severely injured, Imran died while being taken to the hospital. The police registered case against Prasanna under Section 281 and 106(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Following social media posts accusing Prasanna of driving while intoxicated, police conducted an alcometer test in the presence of the victim’s family and the woman who posted the messages. The test showed no traces of alcohol. Police stated that a blood test will also be performed to further verify the findings.
