Dindigul: An Assistant Agricultural Officer in Vadamadurai and an Extension Officer in Social Welfare Department in Dindigul Union were caught redhanded by sleuths of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption for demanding and accepting bribe in two different incidents in Dindigul district on Wednesday.In the first case, the AAO, Chandraleka working in the Office of Assistant Director of Agriculture in Vadamadurai had demanded ₹2,500 bribe from a farmer, P. Karuppaiah, 60, of Andikulam in Vadamadurai for processing his application to renew his account under PM-KISAN scheme.However, Karuppaiah had refused to pay the bribe. The accused officer then reduced it to ₹2,000.Based on Karuppaiah’s complaint, the DVAC Dindigul district unit registered a case and laid a trap for the officer and arrested her red handed.In the other case, the Extension Officer, Umarani, 59, had demanded a bribe amount of ₹6,000 from M. Priyadarshan, 30, for clearing his application seeking assistance for intercaste marriage under Dr.Muthulakshmi Reddy Intercaste Assistance Scheme.Priyadarshan’s application submitted in 2024 was cleared and he became eligible to get ₹50,000 cash and 8 grams of gold.Upon bargaining, Priyadarshan brought the bribe amount down to ₹3,000.After his complaint, the DVAC sleuths laid trap and arrested her.Both the accused were sent to judicial custody.
