The Kanniyakumari district police have heightened vigil and imposed restrictions for ensuring tourists-friendly and peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations across the district, especially in the international tourist destination of Kanniyakumari.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Superintendent of Police R. Stalin said visible policing would be ensured at all places of worship where special prayers would be conducted as part of Christmas and New Year celebrations. Over 1,500 police personnel would be deployed across the district on December 24 and 25 (Christmas) and on December 31 and January 1 to ensure law and order. As part of this security measure, 78 temporary check-posts across the district had been erected in addition to the existing check-posts.
A total of 30 mobile patrols, 27 bike patrols, five emergency response teams, five quick response teams, five highway patrol vehicles, and two tourist patrol vehicles had been deployed with breathalysers to avoid crimes, accidents and drunken driving. Moreover, the policemen manning the permanent and temporary check-posts also carry the breathalysers to randomly check the motorists for manoeuvring of vehicles under the influence of alcohol.
