Four goats were mauled to death by stray dogs at Villarasampatti here, triggering concern and grief among local farmers who depend on livestock for their livelihood.
The incident occurred in the Green Garden area of Villarasampatti, where Palanisamy, a farmer, had been rearing goats and country chickens on his farmland. As usual, he had secured the animals in a shed on Friday night before returning home. During the night, stray dogs entered the shed and attacked the livestock, killing four goats. More than 10 country chickens were also reportedly carried away by the dogs.
Following a complaint lodged by the farmer, officials from the Animal Husbandry Department and the Corporation visited the spot and conducted an on-the-spot inspection. Farmers in the area said stray dogs roaming in and around Villarasampatti frequently attack goats and poultry, causing recurring losses. They urged the authorities to sterilise and remove the stray dogs and demanded compensation, including the implementation of an insurance scheme for goats.
