Farmers continued their sit-in protest demanding compensation at Paranjervali village in Kangayam block of Tiruppur district for the second day on Saturday with carcasses of 10 goats mauled to death by wandering street dogs.After the goats belonging to a livestock farmer Prakash were found dead with bleeding injuries on Friday morning, the villagers planned to take the carcasses to the district Collectorate.The police thwarted their bid and, along with Revenue Department officials, engaged them in talks.“A letter to the affected farmer assuring compensation from the Kangayam Tahsildar under instructions from the District Collector is all we are asking for,” P. Velusamy, president of PAP Vellakoil Branch Canal Water Conservation Association, said.Earlier this year, compensation of ₹14.97 lakh was disbursed for farmers who had lost their livestock, cattle and poultry due to attacks by the dogs from August 2024 to March 2025.The compensation was provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund at the rate of ₹6,000 for a goat or sheep, ₹37,500 per cattle head, and ₹200 per poultry bird.The district administration had, last month, made a representation to the Animal Husbandry Ministry recommending payment of compensation for the livestock lost due to the dog attacks for the durations from January to August, 2024, and from March to September, 2025.The letter also recommended sanction of an additional ₹10 lakh factoring in recurring incidents of dog attacks.
