A leopard killed 10 goats kept in a livestock shed in the Sathyamangalam Forest Range here in the early hours of Wednesday (August 5, 2026).According to the Forest Department, the attack occurred around 1 a.m. on a farm owned by Muthayee of K.N. Palayam, which falls under the K.N. Palayam forest beat. The incident came to the notice of the Forest Department around 8 a.m., following which frontline staff inspected the site. Officials found leopard pugmarks near the shed and evidence that one of the goats had been dragged into the adjoining forest and partially consumed by the animal.A veterinary examination of the carcasses was conducted by the Forest Department’s Assistant Veterinary Officer. Following the inspection, the Deputy Director of the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve sanctioned an immediate relief of ₹10,000 to the livestock owner. The amount was disbursed by the Assistant Conservator of Forests, Sathyamangalam. Officials said compensation under the existing norms would be processed subsequently.
