Two persons were awarded 20 years of imprisonment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in the district on Thursday (December 18, 2025).
On August 11, 2021, a 15-year-old girl was kidnapped and sexually assaulted by a security guard, Sekar (55), a native of Sivaganga district and a history sheeter, and Maveeran (37), a resident of Alagapuram in Salem. The Suramangalam All Women’s Police registered a case and arrested the duo.
The case trial was held at the Special Court for the Exclusive Trial of Cases under the POCSO Act in Salem and on Thursday, the court found the duo guilty and awarded 20 years of imprisonment each and also imposed fines of ₹2,000 for Sekar and ₹4,500 for Maveeran.
