The State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre (SCCIC) detained five major cyber offenders under the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1982 also known as Goondas Act for their organised role in large-scale cyber fraud and cyber slavery-related offences affecting public order and financial security of citizens.
So far the Cyber Crime Wing has detained 48 cyber crime offenders under the Goondas Act in 2025 and 35 in 2024. Of the 48 detained under Goondas Act in 2025, 13 cyber offenders belong to states other than Tamil Nadu. Two of them are mule account aggregators from Rajasthan handling the financial gain of the organised cyber crime and thereby facilitating the movement of funds outside the country. The remaining three offenders are key recruiting agents in human trafficking for cyber slavery, who lured youth with fake overseas job offers, transported them to foreign locations, and forced them into committing online frauds under duress.
Additional Director General of Police, Cyber Crime Wing Sandeep Mittal said the use of the Goondas Act in these cases ensures that such high-risk cyber offenders are preventively detained and incapacitated from continuing their activities thereby ensuring maintenance of public order.
