Based on the recommendation of Superintendent of Police Shiva Prasad, Collector K Porkodi ordered detention of five persons under the Goondas Act on June 4.Police said that on May 4, when Vivek, 33, of Thattankulam, Tirupuvanam in Sivaganga district, spotted a person attempting to steal his two-wheeler parked in front of his residence in the wee hours, he caught the accused and handed him to Thirupuvanam police.Investigation revealed that Muthuram, 22, and three others attempted to steal the two-wheeler. After registering a case, the police detained him in judicial custody. Annoyed, Muthuram’s accomplices identified as Alagusundaram, 20, Bala, 20, Vasantha Balan, 19, Chandru, 20, and Alagesan, 20, attacked Vivek on May 7 and killed him. The police arrested the five persons and detained them in prison.After the detention order was served, all the five accused were shifted to Madurai Central Prisons, police said.
