The Secretary General of the Guarantor for the Protection of Personal Data, Italy's privacy watchdog, Councilor Angelo Fanizza, has tendered his resignation, the authority said Thursday.
"The Guarantor's Board, in acknowledging this, thanks the Secretary General for his work," said a statement from the authority.
The watchdog has been at the centre of controversy regarding political conflicts of interest and fines against journalists, among other things.
