Trade unions called a 24-hour strike on the former ILVA steelworks in Taranto Tuesday saying that the government plan would lead to the shuttering of the plant.
"The talks have broken down, we've declared a 24-hour strike starting tomorrow, with meetings.
Because our doubts have become certainties.
It's a disaster,"said UILM general secretary Rocco Palombella at the end of the meeting on the former ILVA at Palazzo Chigi, reporting the unions' decision and arguing that "the plan leads to the closure of the former ILVA. Institutions and the government have lacked a sense of responsibility."
