Five youths from Kerala were arrested for allegedly robbing ₹4.5 crore in cash and a car at knifepoint near Kancheepuram.
According to sources, the case involves Jatin, 56, of Borivali, Mumbai, who, along with his brother, has been running a logistics company since 2017. The firm operates on a commission basis, transporting money and goods across the country.
On August 20, the firm sent ₹4.5 crore in cash locked inside a Creta car from Bengaluru, Karnataka, to Sowcarpet, Chennai, through his drivers, Piyush Kumar and Devendra Patel.
When the vehicle reached Aathupudur near Kancheepuram, three cars intercepted it. A gang of men, armed with knives, abducted the drivers and fled with the car and the cash.
Near Arcot, they transferred the money to another vehicle and abandoned the Creta and the two drivers there, before escaping.
