Spooky season is all about fun costumes, scary movies and of course, lots and lots of candy. In anticipation of Halloween, the folks at Instacart released a report breaking down Americans’ Halloween candy preferences. The grocery delivery platform’s data showed that the top three picks in the U.S. are ― unsurprisingly ― the ever-popular Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Peanut M&M’s and regular M&M’s.“On Halloween day last year, the share of orders with candy was 100% higher than the yearly average,” Alex Orellana, Instacart’s trends analyst, told HuffPost. “We wanted to dig into that excitement and uncover what people across the country are buying ― from the nation’s favorites to the most unique state-by-state picks. It’s a fun way to show how Americans celebrate one of our most beloved holidays.”InstacartThe Instacart team also took a look at the uniquely popular candy in each state ― a metric that reflects its sales in a specific state as compared to its sales nationwide. Basically, the candies with the greatest difference between the sales by weight in a given state vs. the U.S. overall were deemed uniquely popular there. “What really stood out were the local favorites,” Orellana said. “Every state has its own sweet tooth. For instance, candy corn remains incredibly popular in places like Kansas, Mississippi and Nebraska, even though it’s one of the most polarizing candies in America. In those states, candy corn orders are well above the national average ― nearly double in some places, which shows how much nostalgia and regional tradition drive Halloween candy choices.”InstacartAnother fun insight is just how early people start getting ready for Halloween – we saw spooky décor sales start to climb as early as late August.“That excitement really reflects how much Americans love the spirit of the season,” Orellana noted. “It’s not just about the treats, but the traditions, too.”Ultimately, he hopes people can have fun with the data. “Candy brings out everyone’s inner kid, and it’s fascinating to see how our cravings differ across the country,” Orellana said. “Whether you’re planning your candy haul or stocking up for party guests and trick-or-treaters, the data can inspire people to try something new – or make sure they don’t run out of the nation’s favorites.”Read the full report for more insights into Americans’ preferences and behaviors around the Halloween season, as well as the methodology behind these findings.Close Trending In Food & DrinkMore In Life
