Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed satisfaction on Monday after Hamas started to release Israeli hostages and said Italy was ready to contribute to a lasting peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
"Another light of hope is lit from the Middle East after two years of horrors," Tajani said via X.
"After the ceasefire, another step forward on a still fragile path, the transition from war to peace.
"Everything is still very uncertain: the task that falls to all of us, to the governments and peoples of Europe together with our friends from the Arab world, is to consolidate and build the conditions so that peace endures and strengthens day by day.
"Italy will contribute to ensuring that the project of "2 peoples 2 States" does not remain an empty slogan.
