Italy's privacy watchdog said Monday that it has issued an urgent warning to the US company which operates the CamHub website, ICF Technology, not to publish images illegally taken from video cameras in Italian homes or other private places.

It said the warning was made following news incidents involving the unauthorized dissemination of videos from private cameras.

Among the cases the authority is referring to is probably that of videos of an intimate nature of Italian TV presenter Stefano De Martino with his partner that have been published online.

The site, which is not currently available from Italy, offers streaming services with sexually explicit content.

"The collection and subsequent dissemination of videos illegally taken from cameras located in private locations within Italy violates European and national privacy legislation," the authority said in a statement.
