Minister for Housing, Prohibition and Excise S. Muthusamy on Friday stressed the need for strict implementation of the empty liquor bottle return scheme in the State. He said the initiative was introduced in the interest of the public and not as an additional burden on consumers.
Addressing the media at the Erode Collectorate, he said a refundable deposit of ₹10 is collected per bottle to prevent them from being discarded in fields and on roadsides, as directed by the court. “It is wrongly propagated that ₹10 is being charged extra for liquor bottles. The amount is refunded when the bottles are returned,” he clarified.
