Collector P. Akash has said all Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) retail liquor outlets in the integrated Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts should implement the ₹10 empty bottle buy back scheme for liquor bottles sold to customers.In a statement, the Collector said stickers indicating the collection of an additional ₹10 deposit and the respective shop number should be affixed on all liquor bottles sold through TASMAC outlets. The instruction applies to bottles received from depots as well as existing stock available at retail shops.Only liquor bottles carrying the sticker indicating the additional ₹10 charge should be sold to consumers, the Collector said.Under the scheme, customers would pay an additional ₹10 while purchasing liquor bottles. The amount would be refunded when customers return the empty bottles to the same TASMAC outlet from where they were purchased.Officials have been instructed to verify the sticker and shop number on the returned bottle before refunding ₹10 per bottle to the customer.The scheme is aimed at ensuring systematic collection and return of empty liquor bottles from retail outlets in the two districts, according to officials.
