Italy will experience another wave of severe weather Tuesday but sunshine and average temperatures for the period will return Wednesday, a top forecaster said Tuesday.

Torrential rain caused widespread flooding and landslides in Liguria overnight while trees were uprooted and power KO'd near Vicenza while roofs were blown off amid more flooding in the Verona area, where dozens of cars were hit by falling trees.

Tuesday will be a day of more widespread severe weather, but sunshine and average temperatures are expected Wednesday, according to Lorenzo Tedici, media manager for iLMeteo.it, who said this stable situation will last at least until the second ten days of the month.

"The next few hours," he says, "will see further severe weather in Lombardy, eastern Liguria, the northeast, and all the Tyrrhenian regions up to Campania.

Highs are expected to drop significantly in Sardinia, Emilia-Romagna, and the Triveneto region, while we will experience a brief 'African heatwave' over Puglia and the Ionian regions of Basilicata, Calabria, and Sicily, with peaks of 37-38°C." Winds will blow from the west, ranging from strong to gale-force in Liguria and the central-northern Tyrrhenian regions.
