The body of Luca Sinigaglia, the Italian mountaineer who died on Pobeda Peak (7,439 meters), in the border area between Kyrgyzstan and China, while he was trying to reach and rescue a stranded friend will no longer be recovered after the government of Kyrgyztan revoked permission for the operation.

The Kyrgyz government revoked the authorization for the Italian rescue team at the last minute, last night.

"I have news that the mission has been canceled," explained Agostino Da Polenza, mountaineer and expedition organizer.

"The Italians were ready to fly and had moved toward base camp, and then the authorization was revoked without any explanation." The 49-year-old Milanese Sinigaglia was hailed as a hero on social media after falling to his death while trying to rescue a Russian colleague who had broken her leg.
