In 2016, two renowned Harvard historians, Graham Allison and Niall Ferguson, published an ambitious joint article advocating for the establishment of a "Council of Historians" in the White House. As a compelling example of why such a body is needed, they cited the ignorance that surrounded President George W. Bush in the lead-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Bush ignored warnings that his actions would ultimately lead to Baghdad falling under Shiite control, effectively handing Iran greater influence in the region.
