A leopard was found dead in the Adhigaratty Beat of the Kundha forest range in Nilgiris forest division on Saturday. As per protocols established by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), a post-mortem was performed on the carcass by veterinarians in the presence of Forest Department staff on Sunday.
The Forest Department said the animal was found in a private tea estate on late Saturday evening. The post-mortem was performed in the presence of members of local NGOs, and officials said the most likely cause of death was due to in-fighting with another carnivore.
On Friday, another leopard was found dead in the Nilgiris forest division, with officials stating that the animal too had injuries consistent with in-fighting with another animal.
