A Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam cadre Kannan and a Corporation bill collector Senthilpandi have been arrested in the Madurai Corporation property tax scam.
Kannan, along with his wife K. Vijayalakshmi, who is the Chairperson for Standing Committee on Taxation and Finance, was interrogated by the Special Investigation Team led by Madurai Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Abhinav Kumar on Saturday. Later, Kannan was arrested for his role in the scam.
An official said that he was in direct touch with 18 property tax assessees who benefitted ‘under the scheme.’
However, Vijayalakshmi, who represents Ward No. 51, was let off with the instruction of appearing before the SIT for further enquiry.
Senthilpandi, who is the bill collector of Ward No. 96, was also arrested and sent to remand along with Kannan.
