An 18-year-old boy, who got 30 sovereigns of jewellery from a 15-year-old girl by promising to marry her was arrested on Thursday evening.
A girl residing in Salem Camp near Mettur is studying class IX in the locality. The boy residing in the same locality befriended her and assured her that he would marry her. He told the girl that he needed money to start a business so that he would be able to marry her. Believing this, the girl took the jewellery from her home and gave it to the youth. Receiving the jewellery, the youth absconded. When her parents found the jewellery missing and asked her, she revealed the incident.
The girl’s parents lodged a complaint with Karumalaikoodal police. The police registered a case and nabbed the youth on Thursday.
