Italy is on security alert after the United State's strikes on Iranian nuclear targets at the weekend, with extra special surveillance for sites related to the US and around the Vatican during the ongoing the Jubilee.
Protection measures have also been raised at US bases in Italy.
Premier Giorgia Meloni held a conference call on Sunday to assess the situation with senior members of her government, including Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto and Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti.
Meloni is also contact with international leaders, and spoke to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Sunday.
She talked on the telephone with the leader of the biggest opposition group, Democratic Party (PD) Secretary Elly Schlein, who asked the government to keep Italy out of the conflict, and President Sergio Mattarella.
