The US$550 million Legoland Shanghai Resort, located in the southwestern Jinshan district, could attract up to 2.4 million visitors a year once it officially opens on July 5, according to estimates by local government officials.

The 318,000-square-metre entertainment complex – featuring eight themed areas, 75 interactive rides and a 250-room hotel – has used more than 85 million “Lego bricks”.

Construction of the Legoland resort began in 2021 as part of the city’s efforts to establish itself as a major international tourist destination.
