A slew of steps to ensure visible policing by Madurai City Police has helped reduce crime cases, including murders, attempt to murders and bodily offences, in the first five months of 2025 when compared with the corresponding period in the previous year.
A sharp decline had been witnessed in the number of murders, attempt to murders and importantly, bodily offences, till May 2025 said Commissioner of Police J. Loganathan, attributing it to several conscious measures.
The city has got 63 two-wheeler patrols, including nine armed bike patrols and 21 four-wheeler patrols that keep moving around the arterials roads and other crime-prone areas 24X7.
“To ensure that these patrol vehicles were moving on the road, their movements are being monitored on real-time basis with the help of global positioning system,” he said.
Each patrol team has been allotted routes and charts have been prepared with an elaborate time-table so that the patrol vehicles are not stopped under any tree shade defeating the very purpose, he added.
