Madurai district police have introduced additional patrolling on arterial roads in the jurisdiction of their police stations that share border with Madurai city police.

These four-wheeler patrols are in addition to the highway patrols and armed two-wheeler patrols already put in use to check incidents of crimes.

“We have studied the pattern of crime incidents reported in the last five years in the police stations bordering with Madurai city police limits and put these additional patrol vehicles on those select stretches of roads,” said Madurai Superintendent of Police B.K. Arvind.

The four patrol vehicles have been operating 24x7 in the areas like Tirumangalam, Perungudi, Alanganallur, Samayanallur, Oomachichikulam, Silaiman and Othakadai police station limits.

An Inspector of Police said that these police stations have new residential areas which are thickly populated. “These extension areas are easy targets for the criminals to strike at people and houses for snatching chains and burglary,” he added.
