There is some good news for Madurai district police unit.
The Director General of Police and Head of Police Force has upgraded 15 police stations in the district from being Sub-Inspector-manned police stations to Inspector-manned police stations.
This is part of upgrading 280 police stations across the State.
The new move will give a sigh of relief for the police officers who were struggling to man vast jurisdiction with more than three SI-manned police stations put under one Inspector.
“This was mainly because of lack of adequate strength of the post of Inspectors in the district,” said a senior police officer.
