Following Friday's strikes, Iran is facing off with its archenemy: Israel. But this enemy once was anything but, as it aided the Islamic Republic in its war against then-Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and his allies, the Mujahidin-e-Khalq (MEK). The MEK, once a formidable political force aiming to orchestrate a second revolution and topple the Iranian mullahs' right-wing theocratic government, is currently perhaps among the most hated political groups in Iran. Now, as Israeli opposition leaders Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid echo Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's urging to Iranians to rise up against their government, these messages fall on deaf ears, familiar with such calls.
